Fashion Week and Paris Beaches for an extra-special summer

A must-see for fashion professionals and the greatest designers, Fashion Week is the event of the moment. But if being outdoors is more your scene, you can bask in the sun in the heart of the capital as Paris Plages returns to the delight of adults and children alike.

High-end ready-to-wear in Paris

Reserved for the elite of haute couture and chic trendsetting, Paris Fashion Week takes place this year from July 2nd to 6th. This week of catwalk shows setting the trends for next winter is eagerly anticipated by all fashion professionals and provides an opportunity for industry insiders to admire and comment on the new collections as the world’s most high-profile couturiers unveil their latest creations. The most illustrious names in the world of haute couture will be in Paris for this fashion forward week and brands such as Chanel, Saab, Valentino, Dior and Gaultier will be well represented. The hottest trends for autumn and winter 2017/2018 will be launched during this major week in the calendars of fashion aficionados, and the occasion also offers the opportunity to get in on the ground floor with the design talents of tomorrow. Along with those of London, New York and Milan, this is one of the major global fashion weeks. Only the chosen few will have the privilege of attending shows at venues kept secret until the last minute. These are where the likes of Alexander Lang, Victoria Beckham and Jeremy Scott will present their latest creations.

A touch of Copacabana in Paris

Paris Plages is the completely free celebration of beach fun and relaxation that takes place every year in the capital around July and August. Launched in 2002 it provides a seaside holiday resort atmosphere for all who love sand and sunshine. Parisians and visitors to the capital alike can feel the sand between their toes, snooze in the shade of a palm tree and get stuck into an ice cream on the banks of the Seine from July 8th to September 3rd. A family event par excellence and totally conducive to relaxation, Paris Plages is a unique opportunity to enjoy a beach holiday in the heart of the capital. Playgrounds for children, water sprays, deckchairs, sun beds, sports and games facilities and various kinds of entertainment are organised by the City of Paris so that everyone can enjoy an extended summer vacation. The Georges-Pompidou Expressway is covered with several thousand tons of sand to transform it into a temporary beach, as are the banks of the Bassin de la Villette, which also hosts 3 bathing areas. One is for toddlers, another is just 1 metre 20 cm in depth, while the third is for swimmers. You can also take a pedalo or kayak onto the lake. The Ourcq Canal thus becomes a real waterfront resort to be enjoyed by all from the very youngest to those who are only young at heart.
