Please read on and we’ll tell you about some of them.

Attractions in Paris you should not miss:

The Louvre Museum

One of the world’s largest and finest museums and certainly the most visited, the Louvre is housed in a former royal residence which became a public museum during the time of the French Revolution. The collection held within the venerable walls of this palace is astounding. There are over a million works of art, of which around 35,000 are on display, along with a vast array of artifacts dating from prehistory through to our modern world. It is the home of such iconic works as the Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa.

The Jardin des Tuileries

Located between the Louvre and the Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries Garden was originally created as a royal palace garden in the 16th century. It became a public park following the French Revolution and today features several fountains, two pools and numerous wonderful sculptures. There are also two museums here. The Orangerie displays the large water lily paintings of Claude Monet and some sculptures by Auguste Rodin, amongst other items of interest, whereas the the Jeu de Paume is used for the exhibiting of modern and contemporary art.

The Musée Grévin

Founded in 1882 by journalist Arthur Meyer, who wished to allow people the chance to see realistic representations of the public figures they read about in the news, this wax museum is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe. It has an atmosphere all its own, with baroque architecture, a hall of mirrors and a theatre for magic shows. Some 450 models are arranged in both historical and modern day scenes. It offers a fascinating experience for the entire family.

******

• Musée du Louvre,
99 Rue de Rivoli, Paris 1st
Metro : Louvre Rivoli, line 1 – Palais Royal Musée du Louvre, lines 1 et 7
• Jardins des Tuileries,
113 Rue de Rivoli, Paris 1st
Metro : Tuileries, line 1
•Musée Grévin,
10 boulevard Montmartre – Paris 9e
Metro : Grands Boulevards, lines 8, 9

~oOo~

Picture copyright holder : Hotel Daunou Opéra

Hotel Daunou Opera, an elegant 3-star hotel in Paris, opera district

A warm welcome from the Hotel Daunou Opera to our new website, and particularly to our new weblog.
