Culture is said to be the food of the mind. If that’s so, then Paris can offer you an entire banquet by way of some superb trade shows that have helped to cement the city’s reputation as a cultural capital. Between the Livre Paris Book Fair and the Art Paris Art Fair, literature lovers and contemporary art buffs alike have plenty to enjoy. The Hotel Daunou Opera, located just 2 minutes’ walk from the Opera Garnier in the 2nd arrondissement, recommends these Parisian events to anyone who savours a cultural feast.
Livre Paris, a great French literary gathering
Lovers of literature, bibliophiles and the simply curious will gather from March 17th to 20th, 2016 at Livre Paris, a fabulous trade fair that will take place in Pavilion 1 at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre. During four packed days of events and meetings, visitors will benefit from the presence of 1,200 publishers, have the chance to attend any of the 4700 book signings scheduled and meet representatives from fifty countries. It could be a chance to meet your favourite author!
Every year this fair places a particular nation in the literary spotlight and welcomes a delegation of writers and publishers from that country. This year South Korea is to be the guest of honour, allowing the public to discover the worldwide success and influence of Hallyu, the Korean cultural wave currently sweeping across the world. Many representatives of South Korean literature await you in the aisles of a show that is set to be full of surprises.
Fans of manga and bandes dessinées will also have the pleasure of discovering their particular passion represented, with exhibitions devoted to comics for young and old, for an escape into a world where imagination is king.
For its 36th edition, the internationally acclaimed Livre Paris has adopted not only a new name, but a new format. This year, for the first time, you are invited Outside the Walls before the show opens, where you can discover exciting exhibitions and workshops, as well as a literary walk on the banks of the Seine.
Art Paris Art Fair, a benchmark of modern and contemporary art
The Grand Palais is ready to host contemporary art in all its forms from March 31st to April 4th, 2016, because this is when the eagerly anticipated annual event known as the Art Paris Art Fair takes place. This event, filled with a varied panorama of modern and contemporary creation from the post-war period to the present, is open to all forms of artistic expression from both established and up and coming artists. New talent will have a chance in the spotlight with the selection of 10 new galleries highlighting the work of emerging artists.
Over 140 galleries from 20 countries will be represented, including Azerbaijan, Colombia and Iran, each participating for the first time. As part of the celebrations of the year of France-Korea, the exceptional creativity of the ‘Land of the Morning Calm’ will be celebrated as South Korea is invited to be this year’s national guest of honour. The Art Paris Art Fair is open to all the public and offers a wide range of thematic areas, including the Solo Show, with its in-depth look at an individual artist.
