Discover La Traviata at the Palais Garnier
First there was Manon Lescaut, a work written by Antoine François Prévost. This inspired The Lady of the Camellias, a romantic novel by Alexandre Dumas fils that is commonly known in English as Camille. Giuseppe Verdi liked the theatrical adaptation of the novel, also written by the son of Alexandre Dumas, so he decided to put the story to music. Thus, La Traviata, an opera in three acts, premiered in March 1853. It tells the story of a courtesan who becomes a ‘fallen woman’ and the sacrifice of love in the face of a conservative society that despises relations between different social classes. A tragic story of sacrifice and bourgeois morality.
A carefully orchestrated revisit
The distinguished stage director Simon Stone has brought a touch of modernity to the timeless La Traviata while carefully maintaining its integrity. The result is surprisingly intimate and highlights the societal vices and hypocrisy pointed out by Giuseppe Verdi. The performance boasts beautiful costumes, an instrumental ensemble that is world class and, above all, exceptional vocal performances.
The opus is about 3 hours and 10 minutes in length and will be staged 12 times at the Palais Garnier, which is located just 150 metres from the Hotel Daunou Opera. You can already reserve your tickets to attend this revival of La Traviata. Why not extend this artistic experience by visiting the Opéra Bastille and the Palais Garnier, which regularly host exhibitions and delight with their sumptuous architecture?
