Unusual outings in Paris inspired by the movies

Paris is a magnet for filmmakers, and has been so for many years. This is perfectly understandable when you consider the number of photogenic locations the capital offers. The Seine, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées…all these and many more have featured in the movies and will doubtlessly do so many more times. Film fans can have a great time finding the locations that have formed the backdrops to their favourite scenes. The Paris-based film heritage and new movie support group Mission Cinéma understand this and have issued a series of illustrated film trail guides to help you to enjoy unusual outings in Paris in the footsteps of the stars.

Les Parcours Cinéma; film trails throughout Paris

Paris is the international cradle of the cinematic arts. It was here that the Lumière brothers organised the first public showing of the films they made of everyday street life in 1895. It was here that the pioneering filmmaker Georges Mélièsfirst crafted cinematic magic, showing his tales of fantasy and science fiction to rapt audiences. It was also here that the medium of cinema first became respected and appraised as an art form. The movies are an integral part of the soul of Paris.

Hundreds of film shoots take place in our capital each year. So much so that Parisians can be quite blasé when it comes to seeing film crews in action on the streets. However, visitors to the city who are also movie buffs love to match up the places they have seen on the big screen with the reality. Indeed, Sophie Boudon-Vanhille, general manager of Mission Cinéma’s Paris Film Office, tells us that 60% of film fans who come to Paris would base their choice of places to visit on those they’ve seen in the movies.

This is why Mission Cinéma is pleased to offer Les Parcours Cinéma. These film trail guide leaflets are packed with information regarding movies such as Midnight In Paris, Ratatouille, The Devil Wears Prada, Rush Hour 3 and more. Included is a map so that you can find your way to the various locations spotlighted in these movies, along with background information on the places involved and how they relate to the plots and characters. Each guide also has a reproduction of the movie poster and cast and crew credits, as well as photographs to remind you of how the locations looked in their relevant scenes. Les Parcours Cinéma are available in French and English and may be obtained from Paris Tourist Information points or downloaded as PDF files.

Staying at the Hotel Daunou Opéra you will be right in the heart of Paris, and easily able to access all of the available film trails. We will be delighted to assist with your travel arrangements and provide tips and recommendations based on the movie locations places you’ll be visiting.
